Hi, I’m Dr Gemma O’Leary, I provide psychological and therapeutic services to children, young people and families with a range of emotional difficulties across Shropshire and the wider area. I use modern, therapeutic solutions to achieve long-term positive outcomes with all my clients. I treat a range of emotional difficulties including depression, anxiety disorders, trauma and low self-esteem.
My work draws on a range of therapeutic techniques including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based therapies. Regardless of the therapeutic approach, I believe strongly that the most important factor for successful therapy is a positive relationship between the client and the therapist.
This is especially important for children and young people, who may require extra time to build a supportive therapeutic relationship. I work hard to create a safe, containing space for my clients to talk about and work on their difficulties. I enjoy working creatively and flexibly and will tailor my therapeutic approach to meet the individual needs of my clients.
I have a BSc in Psychology (University of Birmingham), MSc in Health Psychology (Staffordshire University) and completed doctoral Clinical Psychology training at Staffordshire University. I have additional qualifications in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). I hold chartered status with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and am registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
